Connecting to the Bernina 830

We recently received a Bernina 830 in for testing, and we wanted to start out with sending design to the machine from our software connection right away. You can connect to the machine with one of three software's:

-Bernina embroidery software [must be version 5.0w, you can download the service pack 2 from Berninas FAQ site]

-ArtDesign embroidery software, this disc should be included with the 830 machine [must be updated with the ArtDesign Service Pack 1 found HERE]

-OESD Explorations 1.5E [under testing, will have a link with more info, when it becomes available]

Our initial testing was on a Windows XP SP2 system, and a Windows Vista. Both computers only had the BES 5.0W installed.

The Vista computer sent over to the 830 machine beautifully, without problems.

The XP computer was a bit of a problem, We received the following error message when sending to the machine the first time:


We then installed the ArtDesign software that came with the machine and updated it with its Service Pack 1. We opened the ArtDesign software and tried to send it to the machine and it worked!

We scratched our heads a bit on this as to why the Bernina software 5.0W wasn't sending to the machine but the ArtDesign would, we then tried the BES 5.0W one more time, and it worked! Now from a Technical point of view, if it has an error it can be fixed, but the most problematic of all errors are going to be inconsistencies.

We went back to the ArtDesign cd to see what additional items, if any it installs that may help us solve this issue, and we find out that the program that communicates with the Bernina 830 requires the Microsoft .NET framework 2.0 or higher, which is included in the ArtDesign cd.

Our Vista testing machine already had this pre-installed, but our XP SP2 machine only had Microsoft .NET 1.1, so after the ArtDesign cd installed it, both applications were able to send and receive from the machine just fine.

Wrap up:
So a minor hitch that can be remedied quickly, below i have written down a few specifications to make sure everything is uptodate and in working order.

Windows XPSP2, XPSP3, Vista 32bit
Microsoft .NET 2.0 or higher [located on the ArtDesign installation cd, or from Microsoft.com]
